* Intentional gathering of knowledge

* Finding reliable sources to find information about a topic

* Reliability and truth - Authorship is very important to consider - think about who wrote it and why

What is a database?

* Virtual collection of primary and secondary sources

* Many databases exist.

Primary Sources

Secondary Sources

* source that pertains to the subject, but isn't from that time period and is analyzing or evaluating the time period.

* source about something from a different perspective than from when the event was happening

* Examples: textbooks, journal articles, reviews, biographies, critique
