Scholarly Communication & Author's Rights: TigerPrints

This guide provides an overview of the scholarly communication system, rights retention for authors, and open access publication

What is TigerPrints?

TigerPrints is a digital repository and publishing platform that provides open access to scholarly works created by the faculty, students, and staff of Clemson University and their global collaborators. It ensures that the intellectual output of Clemson University is disseminated broadly, rapidly, and openly while making it easily discoverable around the world.

With TigerPrints, Clemson University joins institutions around the world in broadening access to important research through author self-archiving. In addition, TigerPrints offers Clemson researchers a suite of tools to digitally publish journals, books, and other scholarly materials, and ensures that those creations will reach a wide audience.

Why Deposit in TigerPrints?

Including your work in TigerPrints is fast, easy, and yields impressive benefits. Indeed, research continues to show that articles made open access, whether through an OA journal or inclusion in an institutional repository, increases the impact of your research. To become a part of TigerPrints, simply email your CV to kokeefe@clemson.edu, and we'll take care of the rest.

Discoverability

TigerPrints is designed to be highly attractive to Google, Google Scholar, and other search engines. In addition, it is publicly accessible to across the globe to anyone with an Internet connection. Increased visibility and access to your work increases its impact. 

Stability

Depositing your work will ensure that it is permanently archived in Clemson University's institutional repository. Each item is archived on several geographically isolated servers and receives a unique and stable URL. You may link to your work from any other website, or send links to your colleagues without worry of broken URLs. 

Analytics

You will receive a monthly usage report detailing the number of times each of your works was downloaded and an author dashboard which will provide you with search terms researchers used to find your works and downloads generated by referring websites, where applicable. 

Personal Web Page

We will also create a personal Selected Works page on your behalf. This page showcases your individual scholarship that you have included in TigerPrints. Please visit our Author Gallery for examples at Clemson. 

What are Institutional Repositories?

“A university-based institutional repository is a set of services that a university offers to the members of its community for the management and dissemination of digital materials created by the institution and its community members.”

These services include the preservation and dissemination of scholarship, both published and unpublished, created by the Clemson University community, as well as a suite of tools to support the creation and open publication of unique Clemson scholarship. 

Depositing Your Work in TigerPrints is Easy!

Be sure to save your accepted manuscripts--chances are you have the rights to deposit them. 

If you are unsure of which rights you have to your research, contact kokeefe@clemson.edu, and we'll investigate. Or, visit our Author's Rights page for more information.

When you are ready to submit, simply email the manuscript to us and we'll upload it on your behalf and create a personal Selected Works Page for you.
