Your Clemson University ID is your library card. Faculty and staff may have up to 300 items checked out at a time.
Check-out periods for faculty and staff, for both the Cooper and Architecture Libraries:
Books - 12 weeks
Journals, magazines, newspapers - 3 for 3 days
Popular reading materials (& audiobooks) - 4 for 4 weeks
Videos, DVDs, Music CDs - 4 weeks
Juvenile books - 2 weeks
To find out if the library has a book, journal, CD, DVD, or other item, check the Libraries catalog. Bring items for checkout to the Circulation Desk.
TIP: Use My Library Account to check the status of items you have checked-out, renew materials to avoid late fees, and pay library fines -- online, 24/7.
REQUESTS (formerly known as HOLDS and RECALLS)
If a book is checked out, you may request it via the link immediately to the right of the citation within the item record in the Libraries catalog. The patron who has the checked-out item is guaranteed two weeks, but must then return it. You will be notified when the returned item is available. All physical items (books, media) may be requested.
If you do not return an item someone else has requested by the date specified in the recall notice you receive, you will not be able to check out or request library materials.
**If the catalog record shows an item you want is IN PROCESS, use the In Process Request Form -- you will be notified when the item is cataloged and available. (Do NOT use for items listed as On Order or In Pre-Order Process.)**
You can authorize your research or teaching assistant to check out materials in your name by requesting a proxy card for the student via the request form linked below. As the proxy sponsor, you are responsible for all material checked out using the proxy card and will be billed for any material charged to the proxy card and not returned.
Use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service to have the Clemson Libraries borrow materials you need from other libraries. ILL is free to all Clemson University students, faculty, and staff.
Faculty and staff can opt to have ILL items delivered directly to the Gunnin Library. Or, you may elect to pick up items from the Library Services Desk in Cooper Library. ILL items can be returned to any Clemson University library or branch.

Paula Smith handles faculty requests to have print materials or media reserved for your course in the Gunnin Library. Use the online Reserves Request form on the Libraries website or the paper form available in the Gunnin Library to submit your requests.
**Please do not pull the items from the shelves or check them out yourself--a list is sufficient.**
It can take up to one week to get reserved materials in place on the Reserves shelf, and significantly longer if an item is already checked out to someone. Please time your requests and assignments accordingly.
Reserves requests are handled on a first-come-first-served basis, and may include materials from any branch of Clemson Libraries (except Special Collections), or an instructor's own originals (books, journals, DVDs, etc.).
Once processed, Course Reserves materials are shelved on the Gunnin's Reserves shelf on the main level and arranged alphabetically by instructor's name.
For information on how to set up e-Reserves linked to your online course page, see the Libraries' Reserving Materials page.
Purchase Requests
Your subject librarian is the person to contact with any suggestions for books or materials to be added to the Gunnin Architecture Library or Clemson Libraries collections.
Materials in support of a specific course should be requested at least one month before the start of the teaching term, if at all possible.
