An independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress. Often called the "congressional watchdog," GAO investigates how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. Its "Reports & Testimonies" can be viewed by date, topic, or agency.

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) provides reports to members of Congress on a variety of topics relevant to current political events.

CRS is the public policy research arm of Congress. Because this legislative branch agency works exclusively for Members of Congress, their committees & their staffs, & does not release reports directly to the public, it is sometimes useful to search more than one internet source.

Purpose: To collect source & amount of income, labor force information, program participation & eligibility data, & general demographic characteristics to measure the effectiveness of existing federal, state, & local programs

Each year the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives take thousands of votes, some to pass bills, resolutions, nominations, and treaties, and others on procedural matters such as on cloture and other motions. Not all votes are recorded, such as when there is no one opposed. This page shows the outcome of all recorded votes on the Senate floor and House floor. It does not include votes in committee.
