Strategic Plan Draft Review

The Clemson Libraries Strategic Plan will guide the policy and development of the Libraries for the 2024-2029 period. This plan is closely connected to and seeks to fulfill the strategic priorities of the Clemson Elevate Plan. Its purpose is to lay out the specific goals of the Libraries in serving the interests of Clemson University and its students, faculty, and other personnel for the next five years.

The process by which this plan was created included an intensive process with an Ad Hoc Strategic Planning Committee.

The next step is to take the draft of the plan and collect feedback from all library employees.

Please carefully review this draft and provide feedback. This feedback will be collected via Google JamBoard and/or Qualtrics forms. You may choose to include your name on the feedback or not.

Tips for providing Constructive Feedback

After reading through the draft of the new Strategic Plan, please think about the following questions to guide your feedback:

  1. Do you see your role in the Libraries represented  in this plan?
  2. Do you see an alignment between this plan and Clemson Elevate?
  3. Do you see goals that are appropriate for the Clemson Libraries?

Here are some things to keep in mind to ensure that your feedback is constructive and helpful to the strategic planning process:

  1. Be Specific - If you think an area of the plan could use more clarity or if you don't think that something belongs, please share information that helps us understand why you think so.
Example: This section of the plan doesn't make sense because it does not align with Clemson Elevate and I think it could be improved by either re-wording the section to more closely align with Elevate or by removing it all together.
  2. Focus on Improvement - Try to help us think about how to improve the plan. Use your unique perspective to help us understand what could make the plan stronger.
Example: This goal should include a strategy that revolves around [Library Area or Function] so that a clear driving metric of [idea for new driving metric] can show growth and success.
  3. Include Actionable Items - When possible, look for ways to provide feedback that we can take action on as we continue to hone the draft of the strategic plan.
Example: In this section [these words] could be added and [these words] can be removed in order to make the idea more clearly relatable to Clemson Elevate.

Examples of feedback that does not help us work toward a Strategic Plan that represents all of our work in the Libraries:

  • You need to make this plan better - while this helps us realize that we need to improve, we can't take action
  • This plan will not help us succeed - this may be valid, but it is not specific enough to help us improve
  • I don't know who helped to write this plan, but it is horrible - this leans toward being mean and doesn't help us improve
