EndNote: Install & Customize

This guide covers the basics of using EndNote citation management software.

Obtaining & Installing EndNote

There are three ways to use EndNote:

  • Use EndNote entirely online. EndNote Web is free!
  • Use either the Mac or PC desktop version, which each cost about $100 from the Clemson Computer Store. This installation comes on a CD and can be installed on up to 3 machines, although these 3 installations will all sync with the same EndNote Web account (not an issue if you're not using EndNote Web).
  • Use a combination of online and desktop EndNote. EndNote Web and the desktop version will sync with each other automatically so you have access to your sources wherever you are!

Authenticating/Getting Full Text

In order to obtain the full text of articles, EndNote needs to be authenticated for Clemson University. To do this, open EndNote Preferences. The URL you will need is here:

 http://libproxy.clemson.edu/login?url=

Paste this link into the "Authenticate with URL" field seen below.
