Library Catalog Basics

   

  • Use an asterisk * to find varied word endings:  
    •  courtier* finds courtier and courtiers
  • Use quotation marks to keep phrases together:
    • "spanish armada"
  • To find ebooks, add "electronic books" to your search:
    • tudor* "electronic books"
  • Look at full records to discover standard search terms:
    • Great Britain--History, Naval -- Tudors, 1485-1603
  • Use standard terms to find primary sources in books; these include: sources, correspondence, diaries, speeches, "personal narratives"
    • "Great Britain" Elizabeth* sources
  • Try an author search for historical persons to find their writings:
    • Elizabeth I
    • pepys, samuel

Locating Past Clemson History Theses

Clemson University M.A. theses in history are listed in the library catalog. Those written before 2006 will be in print, those after 2006 are in TigerPrints, the institutional repository.

  • Search by author's name if you know it
  • Use a keyword search (with quotes around phrases) to find a list:
    • "clemson university" "theses history"
  • An advisor's name may be added
    • "clemson university" "theses history" anderson

Theses not online are available as print copies; use Interlibrary Loan for those written at other institutions.
