Preferred formats for citations can vary among scholarly disciplines or individual journal publishers.

The most common citation style for Chemistry is the ACS (American Chemical Society) style.  The 3rd edition of The ACS Style Guide is available both online and in print at Cooper Library:

What is Refworks?

RefWorks is a web-based reference management software package.  You can use it to collect, manage and organize research papers and documents. You can read, annotate, organize, and cite your research as well as collaborate with friends and colleagues by sharing collections.

An institutional account is available free to every Clemson student and faculty/staff member. This includes unlimited document storage, unlimited sharing inside and outside Clemson, easy Clemson-wide sharing, and phone and email tech support, training, and more.

To create a RefWorks account

  1. Visit the Refworks homepage and click the “Create account” link.
  2. Fill in your information. Make sure to use your email address - you can’t sign up with,, etc.
  3. Check your email and use the link you receive to complete the registration process.
  4. Get started managing your sources!
