  1. Choose your topic based on your interests and the amount of information available
  2. Find books to get background information on your topic
  3. Find articles to back up your main points
  4. Use the Internet (Google Scholar in particular) for things that aren't readily available in books or journals
  5. Evaluate your sources to make sure that you have chosen the most appropriate ones
  6. Document your work by citing your sources properly
